El Port de la Selva (Girona)
El Port de la Selva is a small fishermen’s village located in the north of Cap de Creus, on the Costa Brava. It extends from “El rec d’en Feliu” to the “Galladera” coves along the coast and borders inland with the towns of La Selva de Mar, Llançà, Vilajuïga, Pau, Palau, Roses and Cadaqués. Within this environment there is a wealth of landscapes combining the Mediterranean blue, the green of the vineyards and sea rising sculpted mountains with high peaks such as Sant Salvador (671 m) and Puig Queralbs (621 m).
Cap de Creus, the last foothill of the Pyrenees, where the town is based, has a rugged coastline with morphology resulting from the erosive action of the sea and wind, abundant river valleys flooded by the sea that cause an articulated coast with picturesque coves, high capes and rugged headlands, as well as several small islets.
In 1998 the Cap de Creus Natural Park was created, which houses just over 90% of the municipality. Within this area, plus great natural areas, there is an important architectural heritage that allows us to trace the history of the place, highlighting the impressive Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes.
The town has a good proximity commerce network and varied cuisine. With a thousand inhabitants, El Port de la Selva is still a quiet town, keeping the structure of traditional fishing ports even though in the summer months it reaches its population multiplied by ten.
We wish you a happy holiday!
